Welcome to 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade English

                                  
Week of February 12-16


6th Grade:

Spelling:  Unit 21 Words:  (6B)  The Prefix con-
                Unit 22 Words:  (6A)  Final |iz|, |iv|, and |ij|
                Spelling and Vocabulary tests on Friday.
                
                            
Grammar:     Transitions in Writing(6A) and Varied Sentence Structure(6B) are the topics on Study Island
                   

Literature:    Students in 6A are collaborating with Mrs. Moren's third graders on researching other countries.
                     Both classes are reading Roald Dahl's book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
                     In both classes we are reading some Folktales.
                            
                      
                      
                  
   
                  

7th Grade:

Spelling:  Unit 22:  Words from Other Languages
                Spelling and Vocabulary tests on Friday.
                           

Grammar:   Root Words and Affixes is the topic on Study Island

Literature:     Both classes are beginning to read the book, The Bar Code Tattoo, by Suzanne Weyn.
                     The students will read some Folk Literature and discuss it.
                     
                     
                   
                    
                  
                   
8th Grade:

Spelling:  Unit 22: Words from Other Languages
                Spelling and Vocabulary tests on Friday.
                            

Grammar:    Using Verbs in Moods is the topic on Study Island.

Literature:    Students will watch the movie based on Anne Frank:  The Diary of a Young Girl.
                     Both classes will also begin reading the book, The Wave, by Todd Strasser.
                     Both classes will read a non-fiction piece called, " A Celebration of Grandfathers."
                     They will start to gather information for their projects on a Grandparent this week.

Upcoming Events:

Congratulations to Dylan Dauphinais,  the winner of the Grades 4-8 School Spelling Bee.  Dylan will represent CES on February 24th,  at the Capitol Center for the Arts,  in Concord, NH.
